· Why aedile
Built From Experience.
Designed For The
Occupier.
aedile was created by Derek James, a serving Queensland operational firefighter with more than 16 years of frontline experience.
Across community safety work and building inspections, one problem appeared again and again: the people responsible for a building's fire safety record were often the people least supported to manage it.
Fire safety was rarely their primary role. It had simply been added to everything else they were already expected to do.

01
The Problem Was Never A Lack Of Responsibility.
It Was A Lack Of Visibility.
In most buildings, fire safety is handed to an owner, manager or staff member who already has a full-time role. They see contractors attending the building. They receive service reports, certificates and emails. But the full record is rarely ever in one place.
Years can pass between formal inspections. Requirements fall out of view, staff training becomes overdue, evacuation plans age and missing records go unnoticed. Then an inspection is scheduled - and the occupier has to find years of paperwork, contact multiple contractors and close gaps that may have existed for months.
In most buildings, the record lives on paper, in inboxes and in folders on someone's desk. It is your defence - if you can produce it. A record you cannot produce may as well not exist.
02
Built For The Side
That Was Missing.
Contractors have software to manage their work. The occupier has the responsibility. That gap is why aedile exists - an independent system for managing the fire safety record of each building, regardless of which contractor performs the work.

Responsibility
Always sits with
the occupier
Independent By Design.
Contractors come and go. The building does not. aedile is contractor-agnostic: change contractors without losing history, rebuilding records or becoming dependent on another portal. One contractor or ten, the record stays with the building and remains under the occupier's control.

One Record.

03
Why I Built It.
For years, I saw the same situation during building inspections.
I kept thinking there had to be a better way.
Modern tools finally made that possible.
From the beginning, the goal was simple:
- Remove friction wherever possible
- Make responsibilities easier to understand
- Make gaps easier to identify
- Make contractor follow-up easier
- Make the whole record easier to produce
I built aedile to help occupiers reduce friction and regain control of their fire safety record.
